This module focuses on the movement of pioneers from the east to west and the hardships they faced along the way. The students will learn about the different stops along the Oregon Trail. The mountain men will be introduced.

Students are also introduced to life during the Jefferson Era as well as the Louisiana Purchase and the impact it had on the United States.

Objectives

  • Students will analyze the reasons for and the results of the Louisiana Purchase.
  • Students will describe the pattern of relations between white settlers and American Indians in the early 19th century.
  • Students will complete a virtual Oregon trail in our 3D virtual world.
  • Students will be able to identify the impact of the Louisiana Purchase on the United States.
  • Students will identify reasons for the westward migration of settlers.
  • Students will describe the interactions between American Indians and people who moved West in the late 1800s.
  • Students will explain how westward expansion affected the way of life of the Native Americans.
  • Students will develop an understanding of human movement through the eyes of people who were there.

    Students complete a variety of written assignments and final projects to assess progress. All work is archived in indivudal student folders at the 3DLearn site. Final multimedia projects are showcased at the 3DLearn site and are archived into personal student portfolio CD's at the end of the school year to document progress and student growth.

    3DLearn teachers provide written daily feedback on all student assignments. Students have password protected learning portals where assignment feedback is stored along with their e-gradebook. Students have access to this area 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
